Pietro Caciorgna, Ciauria 2022

Pietro Caciorgna is a winemaker whose home is in Tuscany, but heart is in Sicily. With vineyards on the ancient lava flows of Mt Etna's northern slopes, at 750m above sea level, Pietro is perfectly placed to produce unique wines which are as beautiful and enigmatic as the land on which they grow. Ciauria 2022 is made from 100% Nerello Mascalese, the elegant red grape for which Sicily is best known. Grown on the mineral-rich volcanic soils means the wine has a superb linear structure and notes of redcurrant, baking spice, cranberry and clove. Aged for 6 months in oak and 6 months in barrel prior to release, it's a great pair with game or mushroom based dishes.
